Hi There,

I’m Elva, apbka (also, previously, briefly, known as) Wise Money Shopper. Amanda, aka Dr. Wise Money, was my sister.

I’m writing here to say that she took her own life in November 2016. True to her chronically overworked and seemingly tireless self, she has posts scheduled well into Spring of 2017. I am not going to interfere with her queued posts. The only change I’ve made so far is disconnecting her other social media accounts, so that posts appearing here will not automatically update across various platforms. I am not publishing anything she has written that was not already scheduled by her in the past. I am not editing her posts in any capacity. You will recognize posts by her as having the author Dr. Wise Money.

In the future I would like to continue to update this site in her memory, and in her spirit (non-superstitiously speaking). I don’t know yet what that will look like, but I look forward to it as a journey of healing. I’ve also met countless amazing, kind and warm people through her passing, and of course post contributions are welcome. Let’s keep talking; let’s keep one another honest, open and transparent. We can do a lot of good in the world with our short time on earth, as Amanda has so well exemplified for us. Let’s start by being here for one another.

Talk soon!

Elva

Every once in a while, I stop by on this site to read some of Amanda’s old posts. Thank you for maintaining this blog/keeping this part of her legacy alive. Hope you are well, Elva. <3

Hi Friend, thanks for the message. It warms my heart to know that someone still reads her words. I have to admit I “tune out” a lot of what’s on here when I come by, in a sort of seeing-but-not way. It almost feels like going to an abandoned house to collect the mail and water the plants. It’s not enough but it has to be, you know? Anyway, I’m confident that as time goes on I’ll be able to interact with her words less intensely, and they’ll be a nice salve for missing her at times. By the way, her new book (that she is the coauthor of) is out, I would love to send you a copy if you want, just let me know. Have a great day πŸ™‚

Just wanted to say that your sister continues to inspire. I found her site shortly after her passing. She turned me onto using credit cards for student loan payments etc. I am planning a post in the near future on a “student loan hack” that I have been able to use that saved me thousands of dollars. I don’t think this is one she ever used, but she is indirectly responsible for it in my opinion. She was a truly special person. Thought are with you and your family.

I am crushed to hear this about your sister. I hope your and your family are well. This was absolutely my favorite blog, and I loved your sister’s voice. I learned so much from her ideas and her attitudes. She had such a strong impact on me — I will always remember her.

    Hello Elva,

I was deeply saddened to hear the news of your sister’s passing late last fall. I cannot imagine the sorrow you and your family have gone through.

I am pleased to hear that you intend to keep the site online so that Amanda’s work can continue to help people for years to come. I believe she would have wanted that. She was very passionate about the things she covered here, and about growing this site to reach and educate as many people as she could.

    Best regards,
    -Physician on FIRE
